Anyone who knows me knows that I'm most often found making sawdust.  I'm working on the baby's dresser at the moment.  (Pictures to follow).  However, it's been kind of hard give everything that happens around buying a house.  I'm trying to get back on track, though.

Meanwhile, shameless plugs go here:

I'm a big fan of the Home Depot.  If you can't find it there, you probably don't spend enough time working on your house.  Now if I could just figure out how to direct-deposit my paycheck, it would save me a lot of time.  :-)

I do not recommend special ordering with HD unless you have a lot of patience, though...

My first major tool was a Grizzly G1023 tablesaw.  It's a really good saw, and was a lot less expesnive than the equivalent Delta or Jet saw.  I'm sure some craftsman can explain the difference to me, but I can't figure it out for myself, which must mean the tool is doing it's job.  The only disappointment was their customer service.  It took them over two months to finally explain that the part I saw in the manual (but didn't receive) had been replaced by some other odd assembly.  They won't knock out Delta doing stuff like that.

I bought the Biesmeyer fence (30" commercial) and added it to the G1023.  It was the best move I've ever made.  Top quality accessories can really help turn an OK tool into a great one.

I have been in the process of "collecting" DeWalt hand tools.  I started off with the 12V cordless drill, which I like very much.  To build the dresser I've bought a biscut jointer and a jigsaw.  All of the DeWalt stuff works great and takes a major pounding.  I used to see a lot of DeWalt stuff on jobsites when I was with SonicForce.  If it's good enough for the guys who make their living that way, it'll probably last forever here at The New Goalie Workshop.   Over time I've acquired the Sliding Compound Mitre Saw (huge plus when we built the fence and the deck.)   I also have the 7 1/4" circular saw, the surface planer and their scroll saw.  power......Mmmmmmm.....

I just added a Ridgid Jointer to my collection.  The Home Depot sent me a coupon for 10% off (I think they get our name from the mortgage company), and I couldn't resist.  I love it.  It was very easy to set this baby up, and it runs great.  I will look long and hard at the Ridgid bandsaw and drillpress when the time comes.  Yes, Ridgid is new to this market, but they have always done well in the past.  (Besides, Emerson knows a bit about motors, and that is the heart of any power tool.)  I guess I'm an "early adopter" as far as this one goes...

I also have a Ridgid dust collection system, which hooks up to my Ridgid shop vac.  Seems like a good idea for me.   I need to buy the Delta dust collector, becuase the shop-vac only goes so far, though.  I'm outgrowing some of the "quick fixes" I started with...  Replaced the little dust collection with a Delta 1HP mobile collector.  Good move.  Also added a filtration unit to clean out the air overall.  Definitly a plus.

I recently acquired a Laguna LT16 bandsaw.  Although i haven't really put it to the serious tests yet, I am thrilled so far.  I looked at the Delta Platinum edition, but by the time you added the mobility kit and rip fence, you were looking at $1000+ anyway.  For $1150, I hva a saw that has twice the HP, a 16" table (instead of 14"), and does a full 12" resaw (vs. 6 1/2").  Seems like a no-brainer to me.

If you're a fellow dust-generator, feel free to drop me a line and exchange ideas. Send mail to djs(at)yertle.com
