A Very Moving Experience
So moving day finally arrived. Yikes. Fortunately Kath, ever the organized one, had gotten us started VERY early by getting boxes several weeks in advance. We actually had everything packed 7 days before the move. Pretty amazing, esp. if you've ever seen me move before. I usually stay up all night the eve of a move and pack everything at once. This was much lower stress. What a legend, that woman!
We had tons of help from my Mom to get ready for the big moving day. She took Friday off and came over and cleaned like a demon. (I guess after having me live at home for 8 years, she knew I wouldn't clean it as well as she did.) Anyway, Thanks, Mom! Also, Adah, our neighbor from Chiquita, and the girls also came over. Neil pitched in too. He saved me from having to clean the bathroom, a task I wasn't eagar to do. Thanks, everyone, for all of the assistance!
The night before the big move, we couldn't resist. Kath really wanted to sleep in the new place, so I dragged our matress and box spring over to Todd Street. No, it was not on top of my truck, thanks. We picked up the truck the night before the move. We rented a U-Haul truck. (Next time, Go Ryder!) We spent a cozy evening in our new place, unencumbered by the modern components of life. We didn't even have a working phone until late that night. It was great, though.
Anyway, since we were so well organized, there wasn't much in the way of pictures before. However, I've included a few pictures of the move itself.
All of the movers arrived at our old place at 9:15 and we were able to pack up the truck pretty quickly. Kath had stickers on every box indicating where it went, so all she had to do was stand at the bottom of the truck ramp at the new place and call them out as people got off the truck. (She's got a second career as a traffic cop, I'm sure!). It was lots of fun for her. Then again, she's used to having large numbers of men doing her every bidding, so maybe it's not such an unusual experience for her after all. :-)
More to come...

OK, so where were we? Oh yeah. So the guys were feeling pretty proud of themselves. After all, we'd moved all of the boxes and the furniture without breaking or scratching anything. Not bad for a bunch of amateurs. We took a brief rest (see picture, right) to celebrate the safe arrival of all of the hosuehold goods. The fun was just starting, though. I mean, let's face it: I already own a truck. In fact, I love my GMC Jimmy. I could have packed the boxes in a few at a time and moved it all eventually. The sofa might have been tough, but other than that... :-)So, it was time for the bad news. I don't think there are too many people reading this web page that don't know that I'm building Zoe's dresser. (OK, maybe Kath's cowokers don't konw, but now you do. I love to talk about tools and such, and of course I have a few.
The boys quickly found out that you don't make serious furniture without serious tools. My tablesaw was the
hithurt of the party. Just the process of lifting a 450lb saw onto and off of the truck was enough to strain a few friendships. Thanks, boys. Couldn't have done it without you. Of course, next time I move, I think most of my friends will suddenly have plans to visit their grandparents back East. It took all five of us to move it around, but it eventually made it onto the floor of my new woodshop without any damage. Well, no damage to the saw. :-)What can we say? This move wouldn't have gone nearly so smoothly without the help of so many people. Mom and Adah were a huge help cleaning up front. (Mom even took down the curtains, took them home to wash, and brought them back the next day. Unbelieveable. "The Boys" are the best moving crew that beer can buy. Thanks, everyone.

Kath is as organized on this side of the move as she was up front. Slowly and methodically we moved through the boxes and got them unpacked. Now we have a real home. Stop by and see us any time.
