We have finally started doing something about the kitchen. We spent most of the winter meeting with designers, looking at ideas, and generally trying to get things rolling. We're going to gut the whole thing and start over. The kitchen as it stands features lovely laminate cabinets, tile counter (with the 3/8" grout to collect that spilled juice and jelly!), and a fantastic pass through to the living rom that serves only to highlight the fact that you can't get there from here". We want to entirely eliminate the walls from the top two pictures. From the living room, the only thing above the counter will be a vent hood. The goal is to open it up entirely. They'll end up gutting the whole thing and starting over. New maple cabinets, new lighting , a Corian counter, new stove and fridge (the dishwasher stays - it's only 2 years old), even new floors. I'll keep posting pictures as we progress and you can watch our story develop. They project 7-9 weeks (and a small king's ransom) to complete the whole thing. It should be done by labor day.And the inside story...
