By now you all may know, but this weekend the baby started clearly kicking for the first time.  This was after another "disaster Friday" where I had to leave work early because I was throwing up so much.  Not fun.  I spent all day Friday riding the couch and feeling sorry for myself.  Saturday morning as I Doug and I started running errands I felt what was either the weirdest muscle twitch in my stomach or the baby.  By the 3rd time it happened, I was certain in was the baby.  Suddenly, all the illness seemed totally worth it and I am beaming like a proud mama.  Doug, of course, wants to feel the baby too and keeps poking my stomach in hopes of provoking it to kick.  Nice guy. He probably tortured his pet turtle, too. :=)

This morning we had another sonogram to check out the fetal anatomy and general well being.  Despite an uncooperative and sleeping baby, everything went well.  We saw both hands and both feet and all 4 chambers of the heart (clearly!).  We even saw 2 kidneys and the stomach.  While the baby wasn't totally cooperative, the lab tech seems fairly certain that it's a baby girl.  But don't bank it yet - it was pretty hard to tell at this stage and given the position of the baby.  I am just totally relieved that everything is fine so far.  I just need the results of the genetic test to come back OK and I will breathe a big sigh of relief.

Now we really need to get serious about picking out a girl's name.

Doug & I will be working on scanning in the sonogram pictures this evening so we can share them with you all.

Yertle is now getting "her" revenge and kicking away all morning (since she was rudely awaken by the sonogram and was really moving around during the last part of the sonogram).

 Lots of love to everyone!
